St Luke’s Social Justice Committee

Our Mission

"We believe that every child deserves to learn in an environment that celebrates who they are and prepares them to be active, informed citizens in our diverse society."

At St Luke's Primary School, our Social Justice Committee is dedicated to creating an inclusive, anti-racist community where every child, family member, and staff member feels valued and represented. We work to ensure that social justice and anti-racism are at the heart of everything we do.

What We Do

Our committee organises events and assemblies throughout the year that celebrate diversity, challenge racism, and promote equality. We believe that learning about social justice should be woven into our everyday school life, not just highlighted during specific awareness months.

Our Work Includes:

  • Assemblies and Events: Regular assemblies exploring themes of anti-racism, diversity, and social justice.
  • Community Engagement: Creating opportunities for pupils, parents, and staff to share their experiences and perspectives.
  • Curriculum Support: Working alongside teachers to ensure our curriculum represents Britain's diversity.
  • Pupil Voice: Empowering our pupils to become active citizens who understand and challenge inequality.

Working with Education for Change (E4C)

We're proud to work in collaboration with Education for Change, an organisation committed to supporting schools in their anti-racism work. This partnership helps us:

  • Access expert guidance and resources on anti-racism education.
  • Connect with other schools committed to social justice.
  • Provide high-quality training and support for our staff.
  • Ensure our approach is informed by best practice and lived experiences.

Get Involved

We welcome involvement from all members of our school community. Whether you're a parent, carer, staff member, or governor, your voice and perspective matter.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Join our working group: We meet regularly to discuss our approach to anti-racism and inclusivity.
  • Share your ideas: We have an anonymous suggestions box where you can highlight areas for improvement.
  • Attend our events: Look out for information about upcoming assemblies and community events.
  • Support at home: Talk to your children about what they're learning and continue these important conversations.

Our Commitment

We're committed to:

  • Making St Luke's a place where all pupils see themselves reflected in what we teach and how we teach it.
  • Challenging racism and discrimination in all its forms.
  • Listening to and learning from our diverse school community.
  • Taking meaningful action to create lasting change.
  • Reviewing and improving our practice regularly.
